A JACK WILLS CABLE CREW
A jumper is not just for Christmas – especially if you're no stranger to cold winters. Seven years ago, we chose Mr Lau's Prosperity Clothing to make our super-soft knits because he understands the importance of quality fabrics.
A cable crew is a true Jack classic – and if you grow up in the UK, as we did, it's a winter essential. The men's Marlow was the first to join our cable stable, named after our first townhouse concept store (in Marlow, of course) and soon followed by the Tinsbury for women. Returning every season, these soft and cosy knits remain relatively untouched in design – we upgrade the range several times a year with seasonal yarns and new colours. The Marlow and Tinsbury are both inspired by heritage pieces from the Aran Islands, just off Ireland's Atlantic coast. The islanders used knitwear to protect themselves against the elements and as a reflection of their identity and culture, and the style has since become synonymous with the highest quality, most dependable knitwear.
To ensure the quality of our knits stays consistently high, we source wool from farms in South Africa, known for its warmth and unrivalled softness – which is perfect for layering investment pieces like ours. As we have done for the past seven years, we then work closely with Prosperity Clothing, a family-owned business that was founded by our partner Mr Lau 56 years ago; in Hong Kong, his product development team works on fabric innovation and trend analysis. At the factory in Guangdong our designs are brought into existence – Prosperity invested in Shima Seiki computer knit machines, which means it can produce innovative, design-led knitwear including jacquards, stitch and complex cables.
The construction of our Tinsburys and Marlows is overseen by chief technician Mr Ng KamHang who has been with the company for an impressive 32 years. It takes him and his team about seven weeks to produce and quality-check each jumper by hand, ensuring that your favourite new-season jumpers continue to live up to our, and Mr Lau's, high standards.
