Tell us about your department at Jack Wills?
I work in the Multichannel Operations department. We work cross-functionally at Head Office with all operational elements to support the business in delivering a full multichannel experience across all markets - as well as supporting our Wholesale & Franchise partners. We are responsible for creating, supporting & delivering all new processes that impact the multichannel proposition and contribute to the optimisation of Jack Wills operations through both individual and team-led projects.
How would you describe your role at Jack Wills and how did you get into this area?
I started my journey with Jack as an Assistant Manager in the Harrogate store and over the past 5 years have moved around the UK to take on roles as the Store Manager of Durham, Oxford, Birmingham and was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to open a brand new store in Lincoln. When I read the job description of the vacancy at Head Office I knew that I would be able to bring so much to the role with my experience as a Store Manager in a variety of markets. I reached out to the Head of Retail Operations and the Multichannel Director and asked for more information about the role, and the more I understood what they were looking for the more I knew that I could deliver and exceed their expectations. Within a few weeks, I was packing up my bags for the fifth time and headed to London for the next leg of my Jack Wills journey.
What do you like the most about your role and team?
Where to start…I absolutely love the fact that you have the ability to make a real difference to the business’ commercial performance and also solve the pain points experienced to make Jack Wills better tomorrow than it is today! The role connects with every Head Office department, so you gain visibility of all activities taking place cross-functionally. Additionally, despite being based in North Acton, you stay close to our regional, cluster and store managers and through this contact are reminded daily of the impact that you can have to make process and procedure better and what impact this can have on their day-to-day/commercial performance.
What has been your career highlights at Jack?
There have been so many. One-off moments; from executing one the most difficult Christmas window launches in Oxford (endless amounts of fake snow and more Christmas trees than you’d know what to do with!) to rolling out companywide initiatives such as our in-store ordering service. However, the biggest highlight of my job is being and feeling part of a team and, every day having the opportunity to improve my knowledge and skills and make a meaningful contribution.
How would you sum up the culture at Jack Wills?
Family. Jack Wills truly and effortlessly fosters a friendly, yet highly driven culture where everyone (regardless of what team they work on) is approachable and open to working together to make the business better with the customer at the heart. I’ve been fortunate to work with some exceptional people throughout my career at Jack. Each one has spent time developing my skills, without which, I wouldn’t be sitting here today with the job I have – so I’m very grateful and feel privileged to work with such talent. Everyone is very approachable, sociable and accommodating and there is never fear of talking to people or asking questions!

What advice would you give someone who was starting at Jack Wills?
You’ll have some fantastic support from your colleagues and be a part of a really friendly community. I’d recommend putting in that extra 10% wherever and whenever possible, as this can open up some really fantastic opportunities to propel your career. Also, ensure that you get out of your chair or have lunch with people from different departments as this can give you some great context about what others are working on and could support you in aligning your day-to-day.
