The Brocton is our version of the traditional Pea Coat that first appeared in the early 19th century, worn by sailors from European naval forces. Pea–coats traditionally had broad lapels and a double–breasted placket with large buttons often bearing naval insignia; the Brocton’s are stamped with anchors as a reminder of its nautical heritage. The term Pea Coat originated from the Dutch word ‘pijekker’ in which ‘pij’ referred to the type of cloth used, shortened to p–cloth and then pea–cloth when the coat reached British shores.
